The Critical Importance of Postpartum Support
The postpartum period is one of the most life‑altering and vulnerable windows in a mother’s life. Globally, hundreds of thousands of women die from complications related to pregnancy and childbirth each year, most of which are preventable with proper care and support.
The World Health Organization estimates that we are short nearly one million midwives worldwide, a gap that directly impacts survival, recovery, and long‑term health for birthing families. Without enough skilled support, mothers are left navigating their recovery alone at the very moment they need care most.
Yet in the 'United States' the focus before birth tends to be on baby showers, nursery gear, and preparing for the baby’s arrival. Resources, gifts, and attention are poured into “what the baby needs,” while investing in the mother’s health, healing, and long‑term well‑being is often an afterthought.
