Isn’t it ironic
that at some point in our lives
we thought it was in our best interest to close off our hearts
present, only half-committedly to keep feeling deeply loved?
Some of us even forgot the reasons why
but just “knew” something wasn’t right
so when we are asked now to show ourselves
the image doesn’t come out clear.
We never end up quite fulfilled
or see our problems disappear.
Always healing,
rarely thriving
but hoping the most will show up for us
if we just care enough or give — even a little.
Became entitled to scraps & bits while shoving non-preferences down the throat of the whirled
punishing her for gagging up the truth
she longs for us to embrace.
Denying ourselves the right to be full
and be satisfied with what we have —
including our problems.
We receive from experience,
turn living from alive.
You see,
opening is a gift in disguise.
We try to pass off what we think is ugly, shameful, and somewhere in between
but the power of love
purges away illusions when you truly
let all of you be seen.
